Vera is a Moldovan painter, currently based in the UK. She draws inspiration mainly from stories and depictions of Moldovan and Romanian socio-cultural issues, such as poverty, isolation, family estrangement and identity disorientation. She works predominantly with oil and acrylic paints. Vera is self-taught in these mediums, however, she holds an MA in Art and Visual Culture from the University of Westminster. She began creating art regularly in the summer of 2020.
While discovering her artistic voice, Vera experiments with various art subjects and styles. Her current practice aims to explore socio-cultural issues through depictions of portraits, landscapes, objects, architecture and cultural symbols of Moldova and Romania. Her motivation comes from her personal experience as an immigrant who has experienced unrecognition, isolation and unsettlement as a minor cultural identity. Vera believes that through visual representations she can raise awareness of her culture, which is often unrecognized by the Western-dominated global discourse.
